Fuquay-Varina - Mr. Herman Curtis Gunter, age 80 passed away peacefully at his home surrounded by his family on Sunday, June 24, 2012. He was born October 4, 1931 in Wake County to Carlton and Hersie Smith Gunter. Curtis was an active member of Fuquay-Varina Baptist Church as long as his health permitted. He was a graduate of Fuquay - Springs High School and NC State University. He retired from the U. S. Geological Survey after 33 years of service.

In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by a son Ricky Knight Gunter and a brother Darrell Gunter.

Surviving are his wife of 46 years Barbara Prince Gunter; a daughter, Genia Keen and husband Kevin of Wilmington; two sons, Ben Honeycutt and Amy of Fuquay-Varina and Jeff Gunter and wife Page of Kernersville; six grandchildren, Drew, Ethan, Sarah Jane, Brady, David and Layton; and one sister, Foy England and husband John of Fuquay-Varina.

A family graveside service will be held at Rawls Baptist Church officiated by Rev. Charles Stevens.

A service to celebrate his life will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, June 27, at Fuquay-Varina Baptist Church located at 301 N. Woodrow Street with Rev. Julian Motley and Rev. Joe Monk officiating. The family will receive friends following the service in the church fellowship hall.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorials be made to The Gathering Community Church Missions, PO Box 87, Fuquay-Varina, NC 27526 or Baptist Children’s Homes of NC, PO Box 338, Thomasville, NC 27361-0338.

Jesus saith unto him, “I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me.” John 14:6 This was Curtis’ heartbeat.
