Associate Justice of the Supreme Court, Paul M. Newby and his wife, Macon Newby, greeted guests after the renewing of his oath of office to serve the citizens of N. C. The event, scheduled to take place at the State Capitol building on Jan. 11, was moved to First Baptist Church on Wilmington Street in Raleigh because of inclement weather.
The newly elected Governor, Pat McCrory, and newly elected Lieutenant Governor, Dan Forest, both spoke along with other dignitaries. The oath of office was administered by The Honorable Sara Parker, Chief Justice of the Supreme Court of N.C.
The beautiful old church was a very fitting setting in keeping with the spiritual emphasis given to the taking of the oath. After speaking, Honorable Newby, himself, closed his remarks by quoting Micah 6:8.
“He hath showed thee, O man, what is good; and what does the Lord require of thee, but to do justly, and to love mercy, and to walk humbly with thy God?” (KJV)
A reception was held across the street in the rotunda of the Capitol following the taking of the oath.
