Official notices of school assignment for the 2013-14 school year were distributed to students on Monday, Jan. 7.

Assignments for next year allow students to “grandfather,” or stay at their current schools with their current level of transportation, unless the student has been assigned to one of our new schools, or the student is entering 6th or 9th grade. Rising 6th- and 9th-grade students have received assignments for their base schools.

Students who want to move to their base schools for 2013-14 may request to be assigned there by participating in the Base Declaration Period from January 7-14.

Base Declaration Period began Jan. 7

Students who are not currently attending their base schools may request to be assigned there during the upcoming Base Declaration Period from January 7-14. These students will have guaranteed seats at their base schools in 2013-14 unless that school has reached its maximum capacity and has been capped.

To request assignment to a base school, parents must submit an application online through the WCPSS website between January 7-14. In order to apply online, parents must have their child’s NC WISE identification number. Parents may also visit their base school or the student’s current school for assistance with submitting their online application.

Notifications will be distributed on January 21.

Kindergarten registration began Jan. 7

Parents may pre-enroll their rising kindergartners beginning January 7 at their assigned base school. To view the school assigned to their address, parents may use the school assignment address look-up tool.

For complete registration information and locations and a list of what to bring, parents may visit our webpage on how to enroll.

Parents of rising kindergartners or new students to the system can also download and print all necessary registration forms in one handy place.

Info and updates for kindergarten parents

Parents with rising kindergartners are strongly encouraged to sign up for WCPSS email alerts with announcements and deadlines for the enrollment process.

Kindergarten Roundup scheduled for February 7

On February 7, many elementary schools will host open houses, tours and information sessions to allow parents of rising kindergartners to learn more about their schools and enroll.

For more information, families should visit the school’s website. View the WCPSS school directory >>

Application Period for Magnet and Application Schools

Monday, Jan. 14 – Friday, Jan. 25

Magnet, Early College and Leadership Academy applications for all students may be submitted beginning January 14. Rising 6th or 9th graders enrolled in a magnet school must apply in order to be selected for the next magnet level.

Parents will need their children’s NC WISE identification numbers to apply online. Beginning Feb. 8, parents will be able to log into their online applications to see their results.
