are to be presented to interested persons at the September 14 first general membership
meeting. On that night membership cards will be issued and receipts provided for
memberships. Efforts to date and plans for the future will be shared at this time.
Individuals: $10 annually
Family memberships: $25 annually
Many individuals or families may wish to be listed as “CHARTER” members from
the beginning and to continue to be involved over successive years. This will be the
voting body of members who will hopefully want to be involved in decision making,
electing officers, and working on projects. Brenda Johnson, treasurer, or any officer
may assist with memberships.
Lifetime memberships at $250 are available to individuals at this time.
Consider lifetime memberships as a way to recognize living individuals or as an
honor for persons who would have been proud to be involved in this effort. W. E.
Medlin is heading the membership drive.
Businesses or organizations have three opportunities to become a supporter of
the museums.
Charter memberships: $500.00
Silver memberships: $1,000.00
Gold memberships: $2,000.00
Here businesses may initially signal their support for the fund-raising efforts being
planned at this time. Hopefully, these will not be just one-time contributions for they
clearly will help provide matching funds as the Friends begin to complete applications
for grants. Max Ashworth, Vice President for grant opportunities, or Larry Bennett,
President and will welcome your interest.
Memberships are an excellent way to support your museums and to assist the
volunteers with fund-raising plans for the museum. Besides working opportunities for
members, there might be entire collections to be made available or suggestions of
grants which might be utilized. Some one hundred donors contributed originally to the
collections; numbers have continued to donate artifacts; others may be waiting in the
wings with additional contributions. The Friends consider these donations an excellent
way to practice conservation, an opportunity to share items related to or honoring
specific individuals and families, and the best way to preserve the history of our area
for posterity. Contact Shirley Simmons or Frances Senter, who are serving as volunteer
directors, if you have donations in mind. Gaps in the collection include, but are not
limited to, pictures and artifacts from Consolidated High School, memorabilia from
individuals, businesses, and organizations and family genealogies.
Membership Materials will be available on Sept 14 at 7:00 p.m. at the Woman’s Club
Clubhouse located at 602 N. Ennis Street. Persons unable to attend may make their
intentions known through the website: www.fuquay-varina-museums.org or by written
communication addressed to Friends of the Museums, P. O. Box 2034, Fuquay-Varina,
27526.
