Fuquay-Varina, August 18, 2010: The Fuquay-Varina Area Chamber of Commerce will hold its 8th annual fall festival, A Day in Downtown, on Saturday, Oct. 30 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Held on Main Street in Historic Downtown Fuquay, last year’s event drew a crowd of almost 12,000 and offers attractions for people of all ages.

With the festival falling on Halloween weekend, the Chamber is planning contests and events with a Halloween theme. A live stage show will entertain the public all day long.

An Arts and Crafts Fair and Business Expo will feature booths with products and crafts to interest the entire family, as well as a sampling of area businesses. The event will showcase creative talents in a wide variety of areas, including performances by local dance schools, martial arts academies, and theater groups. The festival will again feature a Kid’s Kourt—a special street dedicated to activities for the younger generation. In addition to the vendor and children’s areas, the Fuquay Cruisers Car Club will be showcasing beautifully restored classic cars and street rods of all makes and models. The Fuquay-Varina Revitalization Association also invites cooks with a favorite chili recipe to enter a Chili Cook-Off contest to vie for one or more sought-after awards. Those not competing are welcome to sample the entries. In addition, an assortment of food vendors will be on hand to satisfy the tastes of all, and all local eateries will be open to serve festival attendees.

New this year will be the “Search the Quay” scavenger hunt, which will reintroduce residents and visitors to the town of Fuquay-Varina in a fun and family-oriented atmosphere that will include both the festival and other places in town that miss out on the downtown fun!
