Heroes in their own right, Jane Lee (left) and Denise Brown were on hand for the Hometown Heroes event. Lee is the team captain of Jogging for Julie, a team with Angels Among Us, an organization that sponsors The Angels Among Us 5K and Family Fun Walk, benefitting the Duke Brain Tumor Program. Brown is the founder of Hope Salon Foundation, Inc, a local organization that is dedicated to raising funds for The Preston Robert Tisch Brain Tumor Center at Duke. The foundation has two fundraising events coming up at the JCC auditorium: The Peter Mayer Group on Sept. 11 at 7 p.m. and Keith Henderson's Illusion of "The King" on Nov. 6 at 7 p.m. For more information, visit www.hopesalonfoundation.org.
“At Terramor Homes, we know that giving back to the local community is the most valuable and significant mark we leave to show our appreciation. We chose to give back to schools and teachers, as well as the fire and rescue teams and military that truly makes up a core group of local Heroes,” said Michelle Simms, Chief Operating Officer for Terramor Homes, on the company’s blog. “We contribute a portion of every closing on every home toward these charities. We are proud to show our support and appreciation of these important Heroes at our Hometown Heroes Festival.”
The day included free food, performances from local dance studios and live entertainment by Jackie and The High Rollers. There was also plenty of fun for the kids, including face painting, bounce houses, a train ride, games and more. Radio station G105 was also on hand with games and giveaways.
Some of the heroes who were on hand for the day included the Cleveland Volunteer Fire Department, the State Highway Patrol unit and local emergency service teams. The Carolina Military Vehicle Preservation Association was also on site with military vehicles for viewing and touring. The US Veterans Corps collected care packages from festival-goers to send to troops serving in Iraq.
