Camille Miller, principal of Willow Springs Elementary, reports that her school is in the hunt for a $500,000 prize from the Kohl's department store's Kohl's Cares for Kids contest. Kohl's is soliciting votes on Facebook for individuals to support their school, with the twenty schools that garner the most votes winning $500,000.

While the Kohl's Cares for Kids contest is open to all schools, Willow Springs Elementary is the only WCPSS school, and one of only two North Carolina schools, in the top 100. A Willow Springs Elementary parent and teacher found out about the contest and circulated news about it through the PTA and on the school website, and parents responded. Mrs. Miller says that if they win, Willow Springs Elementary will use the funds toward their ongoing effort to expand their students' access to technology.

To vote for a school, go to www.kohls.com/cares. To vote for Willow Springs Elementary directly, go to the school website at willowsprings.wcpss.net and click on the "vote now" banner on the right. Voters in the contest must have Facebook accounts and give Kohl's permission to access certain data in their profiles. You may cast up to 20 total votes, but only five per school.
