Carley Milinichik shows the newest type of stone offered at Johnson Concrete. It is a wall stone that has space built in it so that plants can be planted on the wall. There is even space for an irrigation system designed into the blocks. Items like these will be on display at the Back to School/Family Day on Saturday, Aug. 14, from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Hwy 42 location.
They are planning to have a water slide provided by Triangle Inflatables called “the big chill.” Carley said she knows the kids will enjoy it but they planned for the adults to cool off, too. There will be a cotton candy machine, a snow cone machine, hot dogs, potato chips and drinks, all at no charge. She said they want it to be an end of the summer- back to school type party that families can come to and enjoy in their local community.
They are members of the Fuquay-Varina Chamber of Commerce and have been involved in Chamber events. They recently hosted a Business After Hours program and will be part of the Business Expo scheduled for the fall. Carley said this is the first time they have invited the public to an event and they look forward to having more in the future.
“We want people to know that we hire local installers and we are a local business,” Carley said. Johnson Concrete opened in 1947 and the plant has been at the 1401 Hwy 42 location since 1988. It is owned by Mrs. Franaces Johnson. Her daughters run Johnson Concrete in Salisbury and the company serves central North Carolina.
They want to reward their customers. Anyone who attends the Aug. 14 event will be able to receive 10 percent off purchases through the end of August. Carley said their products are made with up to 60 percent reclaimed material. Johnson Concrete offers more than pavers. They also offer a design service so that customers can consult a landscape architect. To help people visualize what they can create in their own backyards, they have built a fireplace and patio area at the store front on Hwy 42.
“We plan to break ground on an outdoor kitchen after the Aug. 14 event,” Carley said.
