Underwood picked the Tar Heels after considering offers from Wake Forest, N.C. State, East Carolina, South Carolina, Penn State, Ohio State and New Mexico. The 6-foot-2, 325-pound defensive tackle had 81 tackles and 3 sacks for the Bengals as a junior. He said his final decision came down to a choice between Wake Forest and UNC.
Underwood said staying close to home, so his family could see him play was a major factor in deciding to remain in-state.
Underwood and the Bengals will start preseason camp on August 2 and kick off the regular season on August 20 at Knightdale High.
