Robert King has dedicated his entire 32 year public education career to serving Fuquay-Varina High School. He began as a social studies teacher in 1978 and became Assistant Principal in 1997. Since King began his career, Fuquay-Varina High School has grown from 500 students with 30 teachers to approximately 1,950 students with more than 100 teachers. Fuquay-Varina High School opened at its current site on Bengal Drive in the fall of 1975 with grades eleven through twelve and added the ninth grade in 1977. King believes that while things have changed dramatically over the years, he “couldn’t have had a better teaching or career experience anywhere else.”

On Wednesday, June 30, Robert King was honored by the Town of Fuquay-Varina for a lifetime of achievement and dedication to the Town in a ceremony attended by current and retired staff from Fuquay-Varina High School. During the ceremony, King was praised for his humor, outstanding character and ability to relate to teenagers. Mayor John Byrne commended Mr. King for a lifetime of service to Fuquay-Varina and presented a proclamation declaring the 4th of July, 2010 as Robert King Day in Fuquay-Varina.
