A fatal crash July 1 left families to mourn after four men were killed in an automobile accident on Rock Service Station Road.

The accident took place close to 3:50 a.m. as the driver of a silver Chevrolet Trailblazer ran off the road on the right shoulder and overcorrected. The SUV ran off the road on the left shoulder and into a ditch overturning and throwing all four men from the vehicle.

None of the four men were buckled into seatbelts. They were found as far as 50 feet from the overturned vehicle.

The SUV was traveling at a high speed on the road when the accident took place.

The men were identified as Detrique Baker, 18, of Raleigh; Evan J. Bridges, 18, of Garner; Larry D. Evans, 38, of Willow Spring; and Tony C. Smith, Jr., 22, of Raleigh.

No identification was found at the scene, so determining the names of those lost in the crash took time Thursday morning. Because the men were thrown from the vehicle, it was unclear who was driving.

One of the men had previously been convicted of driving while under the influence; however, it is not known if the accident was alcohol or drug related.
