Friends of a Holly Springs teen who was paralized in a car incident in March continue in their efforts to help raise funds. They are hoping the community will come out this weekend and show their support of the family and participate in a barbeque fundraiser.

Friends of the family of John Demcovici are hosting a charity cook-out this weekend in an effort to raise funds for his care.

John is a Holly Springs resident, who was in a tragic car incident on March 17, 2010 which left him paralyzed from the neck down.

"Our neighborhood has rallied around the family to raise funds for his care," Jennifer Bell,a friend of the family said.

"In fact, we just finished renovating his home to make it handicap accessible. A 5K charity run in John's honor was held in May and raised over $25,000."

The group is now working with Lowes Foods to coordinate a second fundraiser for this weekend. The event is called Hog 4 John and will be held on July 10 at the Holly Spring's Lowes Foods,112 Bass Lake Drive, from 11 a.m. until 6 p.m.

The event will feature a pulled pork barbeque, baked beans and cole slaw. The cost of the event is $7 a plate.

Those who attend the event will also be treated to live music.

"Our goal is to sell 500 plates," Bell said. "Continue to support the cause! Purchase a plate for "Help John Today! All proceeds from your purchase will go to help support John’s current and long-term needs. Please consider making an additional donation at the event. Your gift is tax-deductible. Every dollar counts!"
