Members of the Board of Education voted unanimously at their June meeting to extend the contract of superintendent Dr. Ed Croom.

Croom’s current contract was set to expire in June of 2012. The board voted to extend it two additional years to June of 2014. By state law, four years is the longest contract a school district can award a superintendent. In a mutual agreement between the Board of Education and Croom, there will be no increase to his total salary and benefits package, citing present economic times as the reason. Board Chairman Larry C. Strickland stated that the Board of Education continues to receive high praises about the superintendent’s work and leadership.

“The superintendent has proven himself to be able, collaborative, committed, dedicated and an overall distinguished leader. Students and staff are his priority,” he said.

Croom’s current salary and benefits package is $209, 206.85.
