Exactly one year ago today, a massive explosion tore through the 425,000-square foot ConAgra Food plant on Jones Sausage Road in Garner. That day has lived on in the hearts and minds of many people throughout the Wake County community. Today two memorials were held to pay tribute to those who lost their lives in that explosion.

On June 9, the lives of the people working at the ConAgra Food plant were changed for ever when an explosion caused massive damage to the plant. Sixty-seven people were injured during the explosion and four people were killed.

Barbara McLean Spears, 43, of Dunn; Rachel Mae Poston Pulley, 67, of Clayton; and Louis Junior Watson, 33, of Clayton, lost their lives as a result of the explosion.

In November, Curtis Raye Poppe, 55, of Stony Point, died as a result of his injuries from the blast.

Today a private memorial service was held at the plant. Later today, a memorial plaque will be unveiled in Garner's White Deer Park.
