Olympian joins dropout prevention cause in Johnston County

Johnston County Schools’ Dropout Prevention Coordinator Joe Eno welcomes Latasha Colander-Clark as a partner in supporting Johnston County Schools’ efforts of keeping students in school. Latasha Colander-Clark was an Olympic Gold Medal recipient at Sydney, Australia in 2000, LaTasha reached a pinnacle to which many aspire and so few ever achieve. Among her many accolades she has been inducted into two hall of fames; The Virginia Hall of Fame and the UNC Hall of Fame and also has a world record. She is a positive force for the development of youth and excellence in sports through her charitable organization. In 2000, she established the Treasures Within Foundation- a foundation with the mission to strengthen kids, families and the world through education, sports, and spirituality. Latasha will be signing autographs this Saturday at the 3 on 3 basketball tournament at The Smithfield Recreation and Aquatics Center starting at 10:00 am. The US Army will be available to meet with students, assist guests in climbing a rock wall, and allowing guests to view and hear the US Army H3 Hummer with a state-of-the-art sound system. This event is designed to educate students and families about the importance of earning a high school diploma.

Latasha Colander -Clark, LCS Treasures Within Foundation founder, is also holding a Youth Bible Study on June 3, 6:30 – 8:30 at The Smithfield Recreation and Aquatics Center.
