The Heritage Aire Celtic Ensemble formed in 2004 to provide a new, exciting genre of music within the Heritage of America Band squadron. Heritage Aire celebrates America’s great cultural diversity by performing concerts in communities and schools throughout a six state region. Under the direction of SSgt Lacey Stokes the ensemble is well-known for presenting a wide variety of traditional sets, popular pub tunes, and the occasional “celtified” pop song.
Members of Heritage Aire claim diverse musical backgrounds from classical music to rock, delivering a versatile and entertaining program for audiences of all ages and backgrounds. In order to achieve an authentic sound, these Active Duty musicians combine traditional instruments such as Irish flute, Irish button accordion, penny whistle, and bodhran with more modern instruments like the acoustic guitar and electric bass.
In 2007 the group deployed to the AFCENT area of responsibility, performing 60 concerts in 55 days around Southwest Asia and the Horn of Africa. As members of the AFCENT Band, they raised the spirits of Joint Force members and coalition partners serving in Global Contingency Opera-tions. The group also supported humanitarian efforts, bridging cultural divides and easing tensions with foreign nations through music.
