Oceans

By Barrie Bastianelli Daniels

If you enjoyed Disney’s Earth, you will like Disney’s Ocean. It is a great way to teach children about all that goes on below the ocean blue. Beware, this does show how certain fish prey and eat other fish, so there are parts that the little ones might not like. Even though it is made by Disney, these are films (Earth & Oceans) will entertain adults as well as the younger ones. I couldn’t help upon seeing the lobsters, crabs and shrimp… leaning over to my niece and saying yum Tory! I do not think it was our smartest idea to have gone to eat sushi on our way to the film. You can see the trailer here: http://www.spike.com/video/disneys-oceans/3291659. This film was directed by: Jacques Perrin and Jacques Clauzaud and written by Jacques Clauzaud and Christopher Cheysson. This is s a great summer film and is filmed so beautifully. It may be too scary for little ones

DVD Pairing Suggestion: Deep Blue 2005 (also Perrin film, sounds very similar, have not see but its next)

The Backup Plan

By Barrie Bastianelli Daniels

So, ok, this film was panned by other reviewers so I was not expecting too much... thank goodness, as I really laughed at this film and so did lots of others in the theater. It stars JLo, Jenni from the block or otherwise known as Jennifer Lopez. Does this film solve world peace? … well, no. Was it funnier then Date Night?, yes, yes it was. It was so good to see a film that made me laugh and I got the humor while I don’t even have kids. It is about the joys of having kids, making kids, understanding how to make and how to raise kids and why as a race, we do. It has a feel of the movie Monster In-Law. Funny one liners, plus situational comedy. This film stars Jennifer Lopez and Alex o'Loughlin, Michaela Watkins, Eric Christian Olsen, Anthony Anderson, Noureen DeWulf and Melissa McCarthy. It is directed by Alan Poul. It is funny but I do think maybe kids should be 15 and older for this one as there is graphic suggestiveness, if that is even a word. I remember saying during the film... “oops, I guess I can’t bring my nieces (10, 11) to this one” but they can see it on DVD as I can fast forward through the “bad” parts because there are not too many and otherwise it is funny. I liked this one. Finally, a good laugh.

DVD Pairing Suggestion: August Rush 2007 (Not only good but also sports a little of Alex O'Loughlin, from The Backup Plan)

Check it out! : The NC Museum of Art has scheduled their Annual Summer Films for 2010 (http://ncartmuseum.org/interim/summer-films.php)... Watch films under the stars. Bring snacks or a picnic dinner… and a chair (and possibly a blanket). Although visitors may not bring alcoholic beverages onto Museum property, a selection of wines by the glass or the bottle is offered. Coolers and bags are inspected. Water and other nonalcoholic beverages are also available or can be brought. It’s a great night. Mark your calendar!
