Thirty members of the Fuquay Cruisers and their classic cars descended upon Wilmington’s Front Street for the 2010 Rims on the River Car Show held Saturday, April 16. Beautiful weather, good food, and pre-1980 cars of every make, engine size and color made for a perfect day. According to show sponsors, more than 600 cars registered for the show, making it the largest Rims on the River Car Show ever. An estimated 25,000 people filled the streets near the Cape Fear River waterfront, many of them car lovers gazing over engine sizes and shiny paint jobs. Vendors offering food, plants, birdhouses, wine-tastings, paintings and photographs, hats and practically anything else you can think of were set up close by. An extra treat for the Cruisers was the 150-foot sailing flagship “Peacemaker,” docked at Riverfront Park on the Cape Fear River and offering free tours.
The Fuquay Cruisers meet the fourth Thursday of every month at 7:00 at the Golden Corral. Any person with a pre-1975 vehicle who wishes to join us for the evening is invited.
And, if you are interested in seeing some really beautiful classic cars, be sure to make plans to attend the second Friday night Downtown Cruise-In on Friday, May 21.
