RALEIGH, N.C. (April 30, 2010) - Wake Technical Community College announces ZOOM, a new initiative encouraging students, faculty, and staff to choose more environmentally responsible forms of transportation to and from Wake Tech campuses. ZOOM (Zeroing Ozone Output Measures) hopes to steer “single occupancy vehicle” travelers toward carpooling, riding the bus, or walking or biking to work. It’s a

collaborative effort of Wake Tech, GoTriangle, Capital Area Transit, Triangle Transit Authority, and the NC Department of Transportation.

“Greener” travel has been important to Wake Tech for some time. A Capital Area Transit bus brings riders to and from the College’s Main Campus daily, on the hour, from the Moore Square Transit Station downtown. The College encourages carpooling and vanpooling on all its campuses through informal networks and sharetheridenc.com. Emergency transportation is available, if needed, for carpool and vanpool riders.

Wake Tech is also participating in the Smart Commute Challenge, an annual spring promotion that pushes greener travel for saving energy and money. The challenge runs from April 15 to May 15 and includes events at various participating employer sites, with raffles and other opportunities to win prizes and discounts. Visit www.smartcommutechallenge.org for details.
