The 5th Annual Sequins and Spurs Gala will be held Saturday, May 1 at the Sheraton Raleigh. The event is the largest fundraiser for the Horse and Buddy therapeutic riding program.

There will be live entertainment, heavy hors d’oeuvres, cash bar, door prize raffle, and a silent and live auction. Tickets are $100 apiece and sponsorship opportunities are still available.

“It’s been called a barn-raising gala in the past but we’ve gotten to the point where the barn is already raised,” said event co-chairperson Kelly Rappl. “So, the first four years of the campaign was successful in getting us to this point. Now it’s just raising more funds so we can continue certain projects. This is our biggest fundraiser every year and is a huge help toward making all of this possible.”

Although the new facility is already open, there are additional projects that still need to be completed. There is also an ongoing need for new helmets, horse supplies and barn supplies.

“We would like to build a hay barn as well as a gazebo for the parents and children,” said event co-chair Karen Burdick. “We also have a church group that is building a sensory trail for us. The children will be able to touch and hear different things and it will include various activities for the children.”

“We’ve had some excellent people who donated great things for the auction,” said Rappl. “We’ve also had great sponsors. There are different levels of sponsorship and that is a big money-maker for us.”
