On Friday April 16th, the Clayton Police Department released information regarding a report of a “possible attempted abduction” of an 11-year old boy near Collinsworth Drive and Swain Trail. The alleged crime was reported to have occurred late Thursday afternoon (April 15th) in the Riverwood Athletic Subdivision. The department, in an overabundance of caution, publicly announced this reported incident in an attempt to make area residents and parents aware in order to enhance safety measures.

Further investigation by Clayton police investigators tends to indicate that this alleged attempted abduction did not occur. Witnesses have been located that confirmed seeing the reported victim playing in the area about an hour before sunset, which is inconsistent with the 11-year-old’s account of what happened. Other information available to investigators supports the decision that this is an unfounded report. Although filing a false police report is an offense that can consume substantial police resources and create undue alarm for the public, investigators have discussed this case with the child’s guardians and no further police action will occur. The child will not be identified publicly due to his young age
