After moving to Holly Springs, her children began to express their own interest in drama and that is when she made the decision to start a group for young people. The group ranges in number from 30 to 50 kids each semester. They produce two productions a year, April and November. The main cast includes 16 members and the ensemble cast 14.
Says Schmidt, “My goal is to help students become more comfortable on stage and learn how to effectively communicate in front of a group. I believe this is an important life skill for everyone, especially considering that having to speak in front of a group is one of the top fears in America. My classes are not just about performing, but equipping students with the tools they need to get up in front of others feeling prepared and confident, ready to communicate effectively, with a little entertainment thrown in as well! The best part is seeing all the details come together and giving God the glory for the talent He has blessed us with.”
This week, the Springs Christian Theatre presents ‘Charlotte’s Web’ at the Holly Springs Cultural Center Theater, Thursday, April 22 at 7 p.m., Friday, April 23 at 2 p.m. and 7 p.m., and Saturday, April 24 at 2 p.m. Local homeschooled students ages 5- 15 perform this two-act play.
