Wake County high schools are on spring break this week, but before taking time off, Fuquay-Varina teams played some important Tri-9 conference contests.

Bengals softball entered the break on a conference hot streak after blasting both Athens Drive and Middle Creek. Alexa Cannon doubled as Fuquay rolled over the Jaguars last Tuesday, 8-2 for a conference road win. Then, on Thursday Fuquay blanked Middle Creek, 9-0, at home behind Cannon’s two doubles and three RBI. Camise Patterson also hit a triple as Fuquay improved to 6-3 overall, 5-1 in the Tri-9.

Things didn’t go as well for Bengals baseball and soccer last week.

The Lady Bengals dropped a 2-1 decision at home to Athens Drive on Monday. Jessie Davis scored the Fuquay goal. Then on Wednesday, Middle Creek downed Fuquay 2-1 to drop the Bengals to 3-5 overall, 2-5 in conference play. Ellie Barnes scored the lone Bengals goal. Fuquay returns to action on April 6 as Lee County visits, and then Cary comes to town on April 7.

Fuquay baseball had two tough losses last week falling to Athens Drive at home on Tuesday, 14-4. Phillip Cotten homered in the game, but the Bengals managed only five hits and struggled with errors. Fuquay traveled to Middle Creek on Thursday and left with a 13-7 loss despite Addison Braswell’s double and three RBI. Travis Long added a double and Aaron Olive homered.

Fuquay entered spring break at 4-3 in the conference, 6-3 overall.
