RALEIGH, NC – Five students from the North Carolina State University Students of Ailing Mothers and Fathers (AMF) support network presented 20 gift baskets to Anne Arndt, manager of volunteer services at Hospice of Wake County.
The baskets, each of which includes a letter on behalf of Students of AMF, chocolate, candles, a small fleece blanket, coffee mug, cocoa, coffee, tea, gift cards, a book, cookies, and a teddy bear, will be given to patient families in Hospice of Wake County’s William M. Dunlap Center for Caring. “Many times, family members come to visit a loved one who is on hospice service and they don’t think about the comforts of home. These baskets provide a welcoming and thoughtful gift not only for the patients, but for those family members,” notes Arndt.
Organized by Tiffany Stringfield, a junior at N.C. State, Students of AMF is dedicated to supporting college students grieving the illness or death of a loved one, family member, friend, or mentor through support groups, raising awareness, advocacy, and service projects. This basket project represents the chapter’s first service project since their recent reorganization. Tiffany, whose mother died under hospice care several years ago, plans to attend medical school upon graduation from N.C. State.
