Construction of the new bridge on Sunset Lake Road is progressing on schedule and should be completed by September 15, according to Jiles Harrell, assistant resident engineer for the N.C. Department of Transportation district that includes Wake County. Harrell said Monday he expects to see the bridge ready for traffic within three months. The temporary roadway will then be taken down. The bridge and road will remain two lanes with a left turn center lane. Bike lanes are also planned northwest of the bridge. Installation was in progress Monday on traffic lights at the intersection of Academy Street and Judd Parkway in Fuquay-Varina. The N. C. Department of Transportation determined some time ago that traffic through the intersection warranted a light, but the DOT did not have funds available to schedule it any time soon. Town officials then decided the light was so badly needed, the town should pay for it at a cost of about $50,000. DOT and Progress Energy are installing the signal light.
