Mike Dorman of Military Missions in Action of Fuquay-Varina presented a flag that was flown over Combat Operation Base Slayer in Iraq to Kevn Feeny, owner of Zaxby’s on Main Street last week. Ten Zaxby restaurants contributed to collecting almost 12,000 pair of socks for the U.S. troops stationed abroad last fall. Feeny said that the top collectors were from his store and the Zaxby’s in Erwin. Socks have been the item most requested by soldiers, Feeny said.
Their goal was to raise 5,000 in a week, but the collection more than doubled their goal.
Pictured behind Dorman (left) and Feeny are Rainey Turner, general manager, Mat Sondys, assistant manager of Zaxby’s, Sondra Maze of Military Missions, and Jim Abernethy, Fuquay-Varina Town Board Member. Military Missions in Action is strongly committed to helping those who have selflessly given to their country and have returned home with serious disabilities and injuries. They assist the men and women who have been injured in the Armed Forces, their immediate families and those who continue to defend our freedom.
