Both women had just had babies, and with three kids each, they had stuff they wanted to get rid of and things they needed. “We could have had a sale ourselves with just our stuff!” said Jacqui.
This year’s Just 4 Kids spring sale takes place March 16 through March 18 from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. and March 19 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Life Spring Community Church located at 501 Wake Chapel Road, Fuquay-Varina.
Teresa had shopped consignment sales in the past and had enjoyed the experience and presented the idea to Jacqui as something they could do together. All the other consignment sales were a distance away and very large. They both agreed that they wanted to bring their sale closer and make it convenient for their consignors and customers.
They started out with a little more than 20 consignors that first sale and it has grown ever since to over several hundred consignors and volunteers.
Jacqui and Teresa run two sales per year – spring and fall. Shoppers typically use the fall sale to purchase holiday clothing and gifts. It’s a good time to buy winter coats, gloves and boots and even Halloween costumes.
The Spring sale gives customers the opportunity to pick up great Easter clothing items, shorts or Summer dresses.
Consignors bring in their gently-used children’s items and Just 4 Kids sells them over the course of the week. It enables people to sell their children’s outgrown clothing and pick up much needed items for the new season from infant to teen sizes.
One thing Jacqui and Teresa have noticed over the years is that value remains the same. No matter what your financial situation, everyone loves a good bargain. There is truly a need out there for families to find an affordable way to clothe and equip their children for each coming season. “Kids grow out of things so quickly,” says Teresa. “It’s nice to get some sort of return on those items.”
One trend they have noticed is parent’s desire for educational materials for their children. They always get lots of books, CD’s, learning games and instructional items at the sales.
The people and their individual stories are what has sustained Jacqui and Teresa. They have seen the same families grow and change over the years. Mothers and fathers continue to use the sale to outfit each new addition to their families.
Many of the consignors have developed lasting friendships through the sale, adding to the sense of community Jacqui and Teresa try to promote by staying right in Fuquay-Varina.
Just 4 Kids works with many families with children with special needs. They take advantage of the proximity of the sale because they often can’t get to other towns or retail establishments to shop for their children’s clothing. The sale enables foster parents and adoptive parents the ability to stretch their dollars.
New mothers could shop for all their baby needs from high chairs, infant clothing, blankets, bibs, swings and strollers. Grandparents are some of Just 4 Kids biggest fans. It is the perfect place to pick up an extra pack-and-play or some toys to keep at Grandma’s.
Jacqui and Teresa always choose a charity to which they donate unclaimed or unsold items. In past sales, Just 4 Kids has donated unsold items to Helping Hands Forever, Catholic Parish Outreach, a pregnancy crisis center, Interact, local children through PTA’s and women’s shelters.
“We have a great group of people that time after time show us what it means to pull together to make something great happen for the community,” say Jacqui and Teresa.
