Piano and Voice teachers from the Clayton and Johnston County area will accompany their students to Johnston Community College on Friday, Feb. 19 for the NC Federation of Music Clubs Festival 2010. The Music Festival is sponsored by Clayton Music Club and Johnston Community College. Over 65 piano and voice students will perform and receive an evaluation by independent judges. The more advanced students may compete in the Scholarship category to go to the NCFMC finals on April 17 at the University of North Carolina Greensboro campus. Contestants from all over North Carolina will compete at the University of NC at Greensboro (UNC-G) for scholarships. Upon winning at UNC-G the students will be asked to play at Junior Festival Day on May 1, 2009 in Statesville, NC. State scholarships will be awarded there. By participating in this NCFMC Music Festival, these young music students come to raise their level of performance, playing and learning standards, overcome performance nervousness as they experience solo playing or singing for a judge, and try to meet perfection in their work. They receive certificates, earn points for Gold Cups and receive special recognition from the National Federation of Music Clubs. Some students have participated in the NCFMC Music Festival from kindergarten through high school.
All music students in Johnston County may participate in the music festival if their teachers are a member of NCFMC. For more information please contact Clayton Music Club President, Betsy Bullard at 359-2582. An NCFMC Honors Recital will be held in the Recital Hall, Graphic Arts B108, of Johnston Community College on Saturday, Feb. 27 at 2 p.m. All scholarship winners will perform and receive their award. Friends and relatives are invited to attend. Scholarship Recipients will also be commissioned to perform at UNC-G for the state level scholarship on April 17.
