Fuquay-Varina – Alene Helen Wolfgang McGreevy was born January 13, 1925 and went to heaven on February 9, 2010. Surrounded at home by her family and friends, our mother lost her long valiant battle with COPD.
As a small child, while her Marine father was stationed in Haiti, she learned Haitian French as a first language. Later, as a nine year old, with her family stationed in China, she would steal away to eat with the people of China and learned to love the culture and food. Mom was the original “foodie” and became a wonderful adventurous cook.
A woman born ahead of her time, Mom was intelligent, tenacious, and independent. Although not easy to get to know, once you were her friend you were her friend for life. She had little tolerance of insincerity and did not suffer fools gladly.
More than anything she loved her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. Throughout her long life we brought her joy, happiness, and peace. And until they took her from our midst we held the hand of our beloved mother and kissed her beautiful face.
Alene Helen McGreevy is survived by her sister Hazel Shaver; son and daughter-in-law Art and Alice McGreevy; daughters and sons-in-law Annette and Fred Ruh, Cathie and Robert Horne, Bridget and Frank Falco, Nancy Cote and Lori and Eddie Smith; grandchildren Debbie and Todd Nelson, Missy and Brian Muetze, Michael and Audra Williams, Bridget Cote, David Cote and Mark Cote; ten great grandchildren and two grandbabies in heaven waiting to be held; along with many nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends on Sunday, February 14 from 6:00 – 8:00p.m at Thomas Funeral Home, 401 N. Ennis Street, Fuquay-Varina. A funeral Mass will be held on Monday, February 15 at 9 a.m. at St. Bernadette Catholic Church, 1005 Wilbon Road, Fuquay Varina. Burial will follow in Jacksonville NC.
So Mom, please give Daddy, Matthew and MacKenzie our love until we meet again in the presence of our Lord.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to The COPD Foundation, 2937 SW 27th Street, Suite 302, Miami FL, 33133, phone 866-731-2673.
