Ms. Cash, a former news reporter and anchor for WRAL, now serves as the North Carolina Lottery Host. She has been singing professionally since leaving the TV News business in 1993. She has emceed and performed in hundreds of musical variety shows in the area and performs as a solo artist for a variety of events. Returning to WRAL in 2007, she now calls the winning numbers for the NC Education Lottery during the 11pm news.
The Johnston Community College Country Music Showcase gives local performers an opportunity to sing on the big stage, along with a love band and backup singers. Producer and performer Debbie Elam puts together six Showcases a year, giving about 25 local singers a chance to share their talents in a professional theater setting. Ms. Cash will serve as guest emcee and singer in the February Showcase which will feature oldies music from the 1950’s and 1960’s including Dancin’ in the Street, Up on the Roof, Do Ron Ron, Only You, and many more.
The show opens Friday, February 5th at 7:00 p.m. in the Paul A. Johnston Auditorium on the Smithfield campus. Additional shows are scheduled for Saturday, February 6th at 2:00 p.m. and a final show at 7:00 p.m. Guest performers for the February shows include Mel Thompson, Mary Surles, Sarah Disorbo, Kaitlyn Flythe, Alvin Smith, and the 2009 Clayton Idol, 16-year old Scotty McCreery.
Individual show tickets bought in advance are $10 for evening performances and $8 for the Saturday matinee. At the door, tickets are $12 for evening shows and $10 for the matinee.
