Johnston Counties and Wake County School officials are already planning make-up days for the days that the students have missed because of snow.
In Wake County school officials said students will follow a non-early release schedule on Wednesday.
"In order to give parents as much advance notice as possible, should classes be held on Wednesday, February 3 students will be released following their regular, non-Wednesday schedule. There will be no early release or early dismissal."
Make up days Wake County for this week are:
•Traditional Calendar: Monday, February 15 and Thursday, June 10
•Modified Calendar: Monday, February 15 and Monday, March 8
•Wake Early College: Monday, February 15 and Thursday, April 1
•Year-Round Calendar: Saturday, February 6 and Saturday, May 1.
Johnston County students will also being making up the days missed.
Johnston County Schools will operate for students on Saturday, February 6, 2010.
Saturday’s date will make up for the missed day on Monday, February 1, 2010, due to inclement weather. Today, February 2, will be made up on April 9, 2010.
"Although Saturday was not on the adopted calendar, it was chosen for several reasons. First, it is still very early in the winter season. Any days missed the remainder of the year will utilize the three remaining days of April 8, April 7, and April 6 at spring break. Second, the law prevents students and staff from attending school more than five consecutive days in a week which is the reason Saturday of this week was chosen" School officials said. "Additionally, the only other Saturday that could have been used is the Saturday after Memorial Day. That simply was not a viable option. Third, state law requires the academic calendar be completed by June 10, 2010, which is our last scheduled day for students. Fourth, it is as equally unpopular to the parents and employees to take spring break days for inclement weather."
Johnston County School officials said they appreciate the support of its parents, staff, students, and community.
"Safety takes top priority in our school system."
