Jeff was preceded in death by his parents, George Robert (Rob) and May Duncan Wells of Harnett County and is survived by his wife of 55 years, Julia Sauls Wells and their daughters, Melinda Gause (Robert) of Fuquay-Varina, Margaret Howard (Mark) of Fuquay-Varina, Karen Clark (Mac) of West End; grandchildren, Luke and Joseph Fish, Elizabeth and Allan Howard, and Douglas and Neil Clark; sisters, Helen Collins of Fuquay-Varina and Carolyn Dewar of Cary; brother, Eugene Wells (Pat) of Schertz, TX.
He began working with the US Department of Agriculture measuring farmland in Harnett County that culminated with a 42- year career as Assistant Deputy Administrator for Program Delivery and Field Operations, FSA in Washington, DC.
After his retirement in 1996, he returned to Fuquay-Varina and was actively involved as a life deacon and church member of Fuquay-Varina Baptist Church. Until the time of his death, he continued his involvement and support of the Democratic Party and local government. He was serving his third term as a Fuquay-Varina town commissioner. In pursuit of one of his most loved hobbies, he participated in the Fuquay-Varina Car Club and the Cadillac LaSalle Car Club. At the age of 71, he enrolled in the automotive restoration program at Central Carolina Community College in Sanford where he excelled as a dean’s list student. His classmates and instructors are currently supporting him by working to complete his main project, the restoration of a 1946 Dodge business coupe.

Family will receive friends on Monday, December 14 from 6:00 – 8:30 p.m. at the Fuquay-Varina Baptist Church and at other times at home. Funeral service will be held on Tuesday, December 15 at 2:00 p.m. at the Fuquay-Varina Baptist Church with entombment following at Montlawn Memorial Park, Raleigh, NC.
