The Nature of Art in Holly Springs hosted a kitchen angel contest on Saturday, November 21. Ten local artists entered the competition. Pam McCosh, owner of Arrange Your Home judged for creativity, usefulness and beauty. The winners in the close contest were Jeanette Barringer from Apex for Most Inspiring with her whimsical watercolor batik angel with a tea pot, Carol Stein from Garner for Most Creative with her large, hand stitched grandma fabric angel with a cute stocking face, Karen Dillard of Raleigh for Most Unusual with her angel made from metal objects from the kitchen including a bowl, a jello mold, measuring cups and spoons for wings. The kitchen angels are for sale and will be on display at the gallery through December.

Other imaginative entries included a stained glass angel that holds recipe cards in her halo by Anne Pilgrim, a coffee angel make of plaster by Rocky Alexander, an American Indian angel done in watercolor on canvas by Luz Frye, colorful kitchen angel placemats by Lynne Wogan, a fabric angel creation by Ana Sumner, a snowman angel with a painted recipe on wood by Alice Rogers and an acrylic painting of an angel cook by Cheryl Sandy.

Visitors to the open house enjoyed sampling heavenly goodies, including angel food cake and homemade whipped cream. Demonstrations were given by artists from around the Triangle. Fuquay-Varina artist Rocky Alexander presented an oil painting demo using a palette knife and Julie Nauman of Cary showed how to make chocolate truffles. Cary artist Lynne Fischer shared clay sculpture techniques and Durham artist Paula MacLeod gave a step-by-step overview of creating mosaics.
