RALEIGH, N.C. (November 17, 2009) - As enrollments soar and purse strings tighten, community college leaders in the Southeast will be able to tap into Wake Tech expertise for help with raising private funds to better serve students. Mort Congleton, Wake Tech’Žs Vice President of Development and Executive Director of the Wake Tech Foundation, has been named Regional Director for the Council for Resource Development (CRD). The Council educates, connects, and supports more than 1600 development specialists at 700 community colleges across the U.S.

Congleton was appointed Director of Region 4 at the 43rd Annual CRD Conference in Washington, D.C. on November 13th. As Regional Director, he’Žll be tasked with identifying and serving the needs of community college development specialists throughout the Southeast, helping them assess past fundraising efforts and become more effective at bringing money into their institutions. Region 4 includes North and South Carolina, Tennessee, Kentucky, Georgia, Alabama, Mississippi and Florida.

“Everyone’s excited about having Mort lead Region 4,” says Polly Binns, CRD Executive Director. “We know he’ll help CRD connect with community colleges in the Southeast more effectively - so we can all work together to do more for students.”

In today's economic climate, corporate and private donations have become critical for providing scholarships and other kinds of support for students. In his role as Regional Director, Congleton will also lead the annual selection of an outstanding individual or corporation to receive the Benefactor Award, which recognizes generous contributions to community colleges.

Congleton, a former member of the Raleigh City Council, joined Wake Tech as Executive Director of the Wake Tech Foundation in April of 2005. Before coming to Wake Tech, he was Executive Director of the SPCA of Wake County and was instrumental in creating the vision for the nationally recognized Curtis Dail Pet Adoption Center. Under Congleton’Žs leadership, the Wake Tech Foundation corpus has grown from $2.5 million to $4.3 million.
