Holiday Open House, the biggest event of the year at the Garden Hut in Fuquay-Varina, takes place Saturday, November 7 from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Fifteen theme decorated Christmas trees adorn the interior of the building at 1004 Old Honeycutt Road where staff members have fashioned dozens of colorful plants and flowers for the background of an event that covers a range of holiday offerings.
Calvin Watts and Michelle Hobson have turned the Garden Hut into a winter wonderland with traditional decorations featuring angels and nativity themes. A Storybook tree and an “Under the Sea” tree are just a few of the many decorated trees you will find in the Christmas Shop
WPTF Radio Live Broadcast of The Weekend Gardener with Mike Raley and Hut owner Nelsa Cox will broadcast at the site from 8 a.m. until 10 a.m. There will also be live music from Tom’s Creek from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. along with free plant advice and décor tips from the pros!
Midwest and Giftcraft representatives will be on hand to talk about ornaments and décor and an Early Bird ornament gift with the purchase of two ornaments from these companies while supplies last.
Door prizes, nursery specials, and great food from Camille’s Sidewalk Café will add to what has always been a colorful and friendly environment.
Free plant advice from the experts will also be offered the following weekend, Saturday, Nov. 14. At 10 a.m. Horticulturist Nelsa Cox will lead a 10 a.m. Plant Walk to highlight some of her favorite plants that can be added to gardens now. It’s free, but registration is requested.
At 11 a.m. Carol Stein’s Gardeners Forum, “Time to Plant Flowering Bulbs” will take place. It’s also free, but preregistration is requested. (919( 552-0590. www. NelsaGardenHut.com.
