Jennifer Abernethy is only 4 years old but she found a way to give back to others when she had her first-ever haircut. Jeffifer’s long, beautiful blonde hair is going to be a gift to another child who doesn’t have any.

Through Locks of Love, 10.5 inches of the little girl’s hair will be used to make a hairpiece for a child who has lost their hair due to illness. Glinda Hill, the hair stylist who gave Jennifer a new look said she never charges for a Locks of Love haircut.

“It’s something I can do to give back,” Glinda said. She is located at Veasey’s Hair Salon on Judd Parkway in Fuquay-Varina.

She said Jennifer is the youngest she had cut for the program. Locks of Love requires nine inches of hair for a donation.

Jennifer’s mother, Rhonda Abernethy, said, “The ladies in the salon that were getting their hair cut had said I should send something to the paper. One of them said their husband had cancer and had to go for treatments. She remembers always looking where the children were without their hair and how sad it was. She seemed quite emotional concerning Jennifer’s donation to Locks of Love.” Rhonda said it was emotional for her and her husband, as well. “We all tend to take so many things for granted. Something so simple as a haircut can really make a tremendous impact to someone in a horrible situation,” she said.
