Mother charged with manslaughter in the death of her daughter

Nicole Lynnette Richards, 23, of Jacksonville, NC was arrested on October 16 by officials with the Apex Police Department and charged with involuntary manslaughter. The arrest was caused by the death of her daughter, Autumn Rose Naomi, age three months.

According to police, on October 11, Apex Police and EMS personnel responded at approximately 9:00 PM to 2326 Reunion Meadows Lane in Apex where Richards had been visiting a friend for several hours. The 911 call was placed from the residence reporting a child in respiratory distress. The child was transported to Wake Medical Trauma Center in Raleigh where she was pronounced dead.

Subsequent to the initial call, Apex Police commenced an investigation of the incident which included the execution of a search warrant at the residence and the interview of several witnesses. Based on information discovered, the warrant for this offense was drawn and Ms. Richards was arrested and taken to Wake County Jail where she is being held under $250,000 bond.

As the investigation into this incident is continuing, no further information will be released at this time.
