Police reported that Jammie Shatel Street, 30, was fatally wounded by at least one gunshot shortly after 6 a.m. She was pronounced dead at the scene. Street's boyfriend, 31-year-old Daniel Jerome Montgomery, was transported to WakeMed with a single gunshot wound to his chest. His condition is unknown at this time.
According to reports, Street was dropping off two of her children at St. Augusta Missionary Baptist Church for a before-school program, a routine she'd followed for the past several years. The children were not harmed but did witness the shooting.
The remainder of the details are sketchy and police are still investigating the double-shooting.
Montgomery is no stranger to the law. North Carolina Department of Corrections shows he has had several minor convictions, mostly driving charges, that placed him in the county jail for a few months.
He was charged with assault on a female in January of 2002, which was classified as a misdemeanor, and his punishment was community service, a suspended sentence and probation.
It is unclear if the previous assault conviction involved Street. Officers with the Fuquay-Varina Police Department say there were at least two occasions in the past where Montgomery was arrested for domestic assault and domestic trespass involving Street.
The Wake County court docket shows that for those cases, Montgomery is due in court on November 2 of this year and March 24, 2010.
