September 23 was proclaimed Shirley D. Simmons and Frances A. Senter Day in Fuquay-Varina by the town board last week in appreciation for the women’s leadership in multiple celebrations that have marked the town’s 100th birthday.

Each was presented a framed copy of the proclamation signed by Mayor John Byrne.

The two were recognized for their co-chairmanship of the Fuquay-Varina Centennial Commission, for their leadership in creating the town’s first history museum and for their recent winning of Capital Area Preservation’s Anthemion Award for leading the effort to preserve and restore the first Fuquay Springs post office.

The proclamation states: “We wish to show our appreciation for the energy, enthusiasm and skill shown in these endeavors and hereby salute them for the success that crowned their efforts in this noble community project.”
