Buies Creek - Wayne Morgan, born to Ralph and Myrtle Morgan in Durham on June 26, 1922, completed his life on this earth on September 23 at the Kitty Askins Hospice Center.

After graduating from Durham High School, he attended UNC-Chapel Hill until he enlisted in the US Navy during WWII and served aboard the U.S.S. St. Mary’s (APA-126). He returned to UNC-Chapel Hill but began working at the American Tobacco Company shortly after he and Doris married.

In 1955 a job opportunity at Lockeed Missiles and Space Division took the family to San Fernando Valley, CA where they lived for ten years when a change of jobs took them to the Washington, DC area. They made their home in Herndon, Virginia and at the age of 50, he at long last graduated from college with a degree in Systems Analysis from American University.

He and Doris moved to Cary, NC in 1987 and from 1990 until 2007 Wayne and Doris resided in Buies Creek, at which time they moved to Fuquay-Varina to live with their daughter and son-in-law.

After retirement he taught computer classes until the age of 80. Wayne, a devout Christian, was active in lay leadership roles and choirs in the Community Methodist Church of West Van Nuys, CA; Herndon United Methodist Church, Herndon, VA; Macedonia United Methodist Church, Cary, NC; and First Baptist Church, Buies Creek, NC.

In addition to his parents, Ralph and Myrtle Morgan, he is predeceased by his sister, Marion Hunter Morgan Harden.

Wayne leaves behind his bride of 62 years, Doris Ruth Upchurch Morgan; Daughter Sandy Block and husband Andy, and daughter Debbie Pennington and husband Jeff all of Fuquay-Varina. Grandchildren: Cori Sandy and husband Brooks of Fuquay-Varina; Matt Enderle of Alexandria, Virginia, and Morgan Pennington of Fuquay-Varina as well as his great grandson, Cole Sandy of Fuquay-Varina.

If so desired, the family suggests the following organizations for donations in Wayne’s memory: Buies Creek First Baptist Church Building Fund, PO Box 160, Buies Creek NC 27506 (bcfbc.org); Military Missions in Action, 411-B North Judd Pkwy, Fuquay-Varina, NC 27506 (militarymissionsinaction.org), or any Hospice organization.

Wayne loved his family, God and all UNC sports. The family would like to extend a mountain of gratitude for the assistance and compassion shown by 3HC for their hospice care, with special thanks to Melissa and Alice.

Thomas Funeral Home in Fuquay-Varina assisted the family with a private burial.
