Holly Springs' annual Dog Day in the Park has a new feature this year - a Carolina DockDogs jumping competition that begins during Dog Day and concludes on Sunday.
Rabies vaccination and microchip implantation will be available Saturday, Sept. 26 from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m. at Dog Day in the Park. Wake County Animal Control will offer rabies shots for $5 per pet and microchip implantation for $10 .
Admission to Dog Day in the Park and the jumping competition is free for spectators and open to everyone. Participants in the competition can register online until Sept. 23 or at the event.
The Carolina DockDogs competition will run throughout Dog Day on Saturday and resume at 9:30 a.m. on Sunday, Sept. 27. Finals are scheduled for 2 p.m. Sunday.
Dog Day in the Park is a family event. Dogs should be friendly and remain on leashes. Local pet care and adoption services will be there.
Sponsors of Dog Day in the Park 2009 include Fetch Pet Care of Cary and Bark Busters Home Dog Training.

HollyFest Applications Due Sept. 25
Vendor applications are due Friday, Sept. 25 for this year's HollyFest celebration, which will be held Oct. 31 in Womble Park.
Vendor categories include arts and crafts, food, the Children's Corner, non-profit groups, and the business expo.
HollyFest has two new features - a children's costume contest and a pumpkin carving contest.
Children ages 12 and under may enter the costume contest, which begins at 2:10 p.m. on Oct. 31. The contest will take place at the band shell at Womble Park, near the pond. First, second and third place prizes will be awarded. All participants will receive a ribbon. Sign up near the band shell between 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. on the day of the festival.
For the pumpkin contest, drop your pumpkin off at the registration table near the band shell before noon during HollyFest. Pumpkins will be on display from noon until 2 p.m. and the public will be asked to vote for their favorite pumpkin. The contest is open to all ages. A first place prize will be awarded. The winner will be announced immediately following the children's costume contest.
