Basketball Clinic for Fuquay High Athletics and FVAA With the fall football games underway, the basketball season also approaches. This is a good time to get a jump on other players and get exposure to the Fuquay High School coaches. This is the second annual FVHS athletic department and FVAA fundraiser clinic hosted by FVAA basketball commissioner John Mason. The clinic focuses on fundamentals, techniques, and some scrimmaging. It is open to boys and girls. My coaching experience includes 4 years of girls AAU basketball, 5 years of boys AAU teams, and 12 years of Recreation teams for the FVAA all as a volunteer. Additionally, the men’s and women’s coaches for the high school will be coaching with me at the clinic. This represents over 50 years of coaching experience for your children to learn from. Additionally, there will be High School players working as camp counselors under the supervision of these coaches. The cost is only $25 per camper for three hours of instruction. Parents are encouraged to stay and support their kids from the sideline. The concession stand will be open for those breaks in between drills and for the parents who choose to stay and participate from the sideline. The first weekend, Oct. 17, is for children ages 5-8 years old. This session will be driven more toward teaching fundamental skills to the individual campers. The second weekend, Oct. 24, will be for ages 9 and up. In this session, (based on the sign-up) we will divide up by gender, age, and skill to provide the best possible experience to all. There will be some active scrimmage time with real time instruction running both courts of the Fuquay Community Center. The High School Camp counselors will participate in scrimmages to help here if numbers allow and the coaches will be working court to court to aid in instruction during scrimmage. Three hours of instruction, drills, and play will make for a fun afternoon. Call the FVAA (552-5465) and sign-up today!
