“Transparency and accountability are hallmarks of my administration. If this legislation became law, documents that are currently public record would become private,” said Gov. Perdue. “Additionally, this bill treats certain state employees unequally.”
The General Assembly passed the legislation on August 10 after making significant changes during the last days of legislative session.
Pursuant to the Constitution, the Governor must call a special session no later than September 20 unless a majority of each house signs a written document stating that there is no need for the session to be convened.
