Born December 22, 1936, in Hope Mills, NC, she was the daughter of the late Robert A. McCluney and Lillian McCluney Parker. She retired after 29 years of devoted service with the Brevard County School System in Florida where she was the Secretary at Coquina, Imperial Estates and Challenger 7 Elementary schools. Janet was a long-time member of Indian River City United Methodist Church in Titusville, Florida. She actively participated in the church choir and was a frequent soloist. Presently, she is a member of Sunrise United Methodist Church in Holly Springs, NC. Throughout her time on this Earth, Janet touched many lives, especially those of the children and staff at the schools where she worked. However, none more than her family.
Janet was a devoted, caring and loving wife, mother and grandmother. She is survived by her husband of 52 years, James R. Schofield. Also, daughters Kimberly Childs and husband Ralph of Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates and Jamie Harris and husband Robert of Holly Springs, North Carolina as well as her two grandsons, Kyle Steven Schwartz of Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates and Zachary McGuire Schofield Harris, of Holly Springs, North Carolina.
The family will receive friends Tuesday, 8 September from 6 pm to 8 pm at Thomas Funeral Home, 401 N. Ennis Street, Fuquay-Varina, NC
A memorial service celebrating her life will be held at 2 pm, 9 September 2009 at Sunrise United Methodist Church, Holly Springs, NC. Rev. J. Christopher Schofield and Rev. Ross Carter will officiate.
The family plans a Memorial Service in Titusville, Florida at a later date.
