The Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (SPCA) of Wake County makes a final push to find homes for cats and kittens clogging the shelter’s adoption floor. This weekend is one of the last to receive 50 percent off all kitten and cat adoption fees.

Summer means kitten season at the SPCA. However, as fall approaches, there is no end in sight for the flow of kittens into the shelter.

“Now is the perfect time to adopt a cat or kitten; families are home from vacation, routines are set, classes are in session, and kittens make ideal homework buddies,” said Mondy Lamb, SPCA spokeswoman.

Desperate to find homes for these kittens the SPCA will hold a Back to School Kitten Adopt-a-thon on Saturday, Aug. 29, 2009.

The reduced adoption fee covers: Spay/neuter, a microchip, deworming, and vaccinations including rabies, a $300 value.

“Our goal is to adopt 50 kittens on Saturday,” said Lamb.

The SPCA will have DOZENS of kittens available for adoption at the PETsMART near the intersection of Capital and Millbrook Rd. in Raleigh and at the SPCA Adoption Center for the massive kitten adopt-a-thon.

On August 29, 2009 the kitten adopt-a-thon will be held at two locations: PetSmart at 2800 E Millbrook Road in Raleigh from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. and at the SPCA Curtis Dail Adoption Center at 200 Petfinder Lane in Raleigh from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m.
