Harrison Ashworth will be venturing off to Campbell University in the coming weeks and leaving behind a wonderful high school and junior golf career for his predecessors to try to achieve. Son of Steve and Tami Ashworth, Harrison was born and raised in the Fuquay Varina community. Harrison got his first plastic set of golf clubs at the young age of 2 and from that point loved the game. He started competing at the age of 7, playing in EJGA (Eastern Junior Golf Association) events and also began competing in The Golf Channel’s Drive, Chip and Putt competitions. When he was 9 he made it to the regional championship, and at age 14 made it to nationals in Orlando, Florida where he came in second place in their stroke play event. This was one of his most memorable moments.

Steve, Harrison’s dad is a great influence in his life. From taking him to tournaments, to assisting him with his golf game, Harrison recognizes his dad as someone who has helped make him the young man he is today. Harrison remembers going to the 1999 US Men’s Open with his dad at Pinehurst #2, watching the professional golfers and being inspired. At that point, his golf game blossomed and he began to focus more on how he practiced and how he played, thus earning him over 20 tournament victories. He has competed in such honored events as the North and South Junior Championship, the Donald Ross, the US Kids World Championship, the North Carolina and Carolina Boy’s Championships, and the Men’s Carolinas Championship.

His golf career at Fuquay Varina High School was filled with great achievements. He finished his senior year with All‐Conference Honors all four years. He went to the State championship both his sophomore and senior year. His sophomore year he finished 7th and his senior year he finished tied for 2nd, finishing the tournament with a second round 67. Harrison completed his senior year proud with a stroke average of 35.2, second in the conference and in the region, a 4.1 GPA and an athletic scholarship to Campbell University.

As he looks forward to Campbell he has set his goals. He plans to qualify and play in as many tournaments as possible, continue to improve his golf game and truly looks forward to experiencing new places and meeting new people. At this point his major is Pre Law and he would like to go to law school.

Besides golf, Harrison has also achieved something most teenage boys have not. At a young age Harrison loved planes and recently decided he wanted to learn to fly. After earning and saving enough money he began working towards his pilot’s license and achieved his first solo flight.

I have known Harrison since he was 8 years old. I have had the pleasure of watching him grow up and become a fine young man. I have been his coach for the golf team, he has worked for me at Bentwinds Country Club, and now I get to see him go and experience the best time of his life. I wish him all the luck and look forward to seeing what he can accomplish in the next four years.
