Jorday, Stephenson, Cuddihy and Mills received the Life Safety Award last week for their efforts when Dan Hackney was hurt at the Terrible Creek Wastewater Treatment Plant last November.
November 15, 2012 started out like any other day at the Terrible Creek Wastewater Treatment Plant but quickly changed when Dan Hackney, a supervisor at the plant, got his foot caught in a mechanical piece of equipment.
Four of his co-workers sprang into action and because of their quick action and caring response they prevented further injury.
Last week, the Mid-State Safety Council of North Carolina recognized Dan’s co-workers for their valiant efforts with a Life Safety Award at a luncheon in Carrboro.
Fuquay-Varina Public Utilities Director Jay Meyers was on hand to see his team get the Life Safety Award.
“I’m extremely proud of this group of men - their combined efforts to shut off the mechanical equipment, notify rescue crews, their work to disassemble the machinery and their continued support and encouragement during the rescue effort. All of these factors were critical to Dan’s care and successful rescue.”
Hackney is recuperating and is eager to get back to work at the Wastewater Treatment Plant. His co-workers and town family look forward to his return in the near future.
