Dr. Mike Hamby and Associates dental office has welcomed Dr. Tamara Samuelson to the team.

After growing up in Kentucky and graduating from the University of Kentucky with degrees in Dentistry and Microbiology, she continued her education with a two-year general practice residency at University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.

Her experience includes a fellowship in hospital dentistry, caring for those with head and neck cancer, transplant patients, major dental traumas and surgery on those who had to be anesthetized for treatment. She used this experience and education to teach at UNC School of Dentistry at Chapel Hill for 14 years. There she met her husband of 20 years, who also taught at the University.

After their first child, she went into private practice there for six years, commenting that dentistry was a “great profession for females.” She and her husband have a daughter in the 11th grade and a son in the seventh grade, who attend their school in Chapel Hill, where they all live.

On the website for Dr. Hamby and Associates, in her introduction, it stated she had run several half marathons. Dr. Samuelson has many and varied interests, among which are running 10Ks, hiking in the mountains, enjoying cruises, baking, traveling with her family and cooking with her husband.

Although her family still lives in Chapel Hill to avoid uprooting her children, she enjoys the people of Fuquay-Varina and finds everyone here to be “so nice and welcoming.” She has been commuting here since Oct. 1.
