James Richard Gates, Jr.

Fuquay-Varina - James Richard “Ricky” Gates, Jr., 52, passed away in a car accident on Friday, December 7, 2012. The family received friends from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. on Monday, Dec. 10, 2012 at Thomas Funeral Home, Fuquay-Varina. Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. on Tuesday, Dec. 11 at Fuquay-Varina Baptist Church, 301 N. Woodrow Street, Fuquay-Varina. Burial followed at Wake Chapel Memorial Gardens.

Ricky is survived by his wife of thirty years, Christy Brown Gates of Fuquay-Varina; sons, Richard Paige Gates, James Patrick Gates; daughter, Tommie Lawren Gates.

A native of Cary, N.C., Ricky is the son of James Richard Gates, Sr., and the late Cora Nipper Gates, and he was predeceased by his sister, the late Kathy Gates Chase.

Ricky was a loving and devoted husband, father and friend. His love for family and children was present in every aspect of his life. In addition to his children, he loved his nieces and nephews as his own, and he and Christy spent the last three years fostering children in Wake County.

He was the owner of Pet Spa Daze, a successful mobile dog grooming business. His business and friends (both dog and human) meant everything to him. Ricky loved the outdoors, boats, go carts, and anything fun. His kind heart, constant smile, and laugh will forever be cherished.

Fuquay-Varina - Louise Evelyn LaPlante, 83, of 8312 Muirfield Drive, Fuquay-Varina, died Dec. 9, 2012 in the comfort of her home.

She was born Jan. 7, 1929 in Cleveland, Ohio to the late Joseph and Evelyn Sabovik.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband Arnold of Fuquay-Varina and her brother Robert Sabovik of Lima, Ohio.

She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Suzanne M. and Joseph W. Gavis and special grandson, Hunter of Fuquay-Varina; son and daughter-in-law, Mark S. and Kathy LaPlante of Kingston, New York; granddaughters, Jennifer and Stephanie and her great-grandchildren.

Louise was a warm, caring person who never met a stranger. She could chat with anyone and had a genuine love for people and friendship. Her warm heart and spirit will always be remembered. A private family service will be held. Louise had a love for flowers, so plant a rose bush in her memory or make a donation to your favorite charity.
