Hilltop Christian School’s students and parents helped more than 55 families in the greater Fuquay-Varina community during the annual “Operation Thanksgiving” project. Principal Travis Moots said the giving exceeded numbers from the past three years.
During the week of Thanksgiving, meal boxes and turkeys were donated to families suffering from hardships. A generous donation from Storr Office Environments, Inc., and other individual donations provided the money to purchase turkeys. Food for meal boxes was collected by many parents and students, making the project a school-wide effort.
The project aims to provide a hands-on learning experience for the students in addition to providing meals for families in need. By participating in the project, students learn to consider the needs of others in the community and work together to meet those needs. People who are truly thankful are giving people, and this project provided a method for the school’s teachers to teach this lesson to the students.
